How we add a key to your Mercedes
With a working key in hand, the job is shorter and simpler. Here's how it goes.
- Call (470) 229-2853 with the year and model. We confirm your car's key system by VIN and quote the spare.
- We meet you at home, at work or in a parking lot anywhere in our Atlanta service area.
- Your working key goes into the car and we read what the car needs. Then the new key is cut and programmed to your VIN.
- You test both keys before we leave: start, lock, unlock and trunk.
On site, programming takes from about 10 minutes to over an hour, and a spare is usually the shorter job. FBS4 cars (most models from about 2015 on) work differently: we order a factory spare for your VIN through NASTF, it usually arrives in one day to a week, and we set it up at your car. I still have one Mercedes SmartKey. Can you make a duplicate?
Yes, and it's the cheapest moment to do it. With one working key we add a second SmartKey at your car to most FBS3 models, about 2003 to 2014. On FBS4 cars we order a factory spare for your VIN and bring it over. Call with the year and model, and we'll confirm your key system and price before we come out.
Can I add a spare key to my Mercedes without going to the dealer?
Yes. For FBS3 cars, most models from about 2003 to 2014, we program the new key to your car on site. For FBS4 cars, most from about 2015 on, we order a factory key for your VIN through NASTF and deliver it, so it takes longer but you never visit the dealer.
Is a spare key cheaper than replacing a lost one?
Yes. A spare starts at $249 because we work from a key that already runs the car. Once every key is lost, we have to build one from the car's data, which takes more time. Details on that job are on our lost Mercedes key page.
Can you program a Mercedes key I bought online?
Usually not. Each Mercedes key is coded to one car, so used keys and most online keys can't be reprogrammed to yours. Before you buy one, call (470) 229-2853 with the listing details and we'll tell you if it's worth it.
How many keys can my Mercedes have?
It depends on the model and year. Mercedes cars only accept a limited number of keys, and older ones may have used some of them already. We check what your car still has room for when you call.
